Exam Proctoring for Students in Online Courses

Student Responsibilities

* You have two options for taking your tests for this course. Read this information carefully and select the option that best describes your situation. *

OPTION ONE - For local students

A student who lives within 35 miles of UNL campus must take their examinations at the College of Business Administration Testing Center (CBA Testing Center) located in Room 37 in CBA. You should check the testing center's hours at http://cba.unl.edu/it-services/testing-center/

It is the student's responsibility to check the testing center's hours and to abide by all testing center policies.

If you plan to use the CBA Testing Center to take your exams for this course, you must fill out this form within the first week of class.

OPTION TWO - For non-local students

A student who lives 35 miles or farther from the UNL campus may use a proctor for their examination(s).  It is the responsibility of a student to identify their own proctor.  Examples of individuals qualified to serve as a proctor include:

  • Individual active in the educational field (elementary, secondary, or college) as a teacher, a counselor, librarian, extension agent, or an administrator at any level
  • Test control officers or superior commissioned officers may serve as proctors for military personnel
  • American embassy or consular officials
  • Nebraska Extension Educators
  • Human resource directors (who are not your direct supervisor)
  • Local testing centers (sometimes located at your local library or community college)

To serve as a proctor for an online course, an individual must have available a computer with internet access. Proctors must supply us with a professional email address. Proctor usernames and passwords will not be sent to email addresses hosted by Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. We will NOT send course examinations to a proctor via fax, postal service, or email. All exams must be taken online.

Students must identify an acceptable proctor and have the proctor submit the Exam Request/Proctor Approval Form within the first week of the start of the course. Students must contact the proctor one week before the exam to verify that the proctor has received the exam login information.

This form only needs to be completed once per term for a student if the proctor is going to monitor all examinations for the student.  If a student wishes to use a different proctor for a subsequent exam, the new proctor must complete the online proctor Agreement Form at least a week prior to the examination.

During the time frame specified by the instructor for taking the examination, the student will coordinate the proctor and available time and location.  The student will log into Blackboard and access their course webpage.  The student will go to the description of the exam and review the examination directions with the proctor (e.g., time length, open book/closed book, open notes/closed notes, calculator allowed).  The student will complete the examination. Once done, the student presses the “ Grade” option in the Maple TA program.

If you have any questions about the proctor procedures, please send an email to ode-proctors@unl.edu or call 402-472-4681.
